Decades of mahi

1986
MUMA Founded

Manukau Urban Māori Authority is established, founded by visionary activists including Dame June Temuranga Jackson. Born from a movement to advocate for the rights of urban Māori in South Auckland.

1990s
Growing our Services

MUMA expands its range of social services, establishing key programmes in education, employment, and whānau support to meet the growing needs of our urban Māori community.

2000s
Ngā Whare Waatea Marae

Our marae in Māngere becomes a thriving hub for the community — hosting cultural events, health services, education programmes and more, cementing its role as the heart of urban Māori life in South Auckland.

2010s
Waatea & Whānau Ora

Radio Waatea strengthens its role as Auckland's Māori voice. MUMA embraces the Whānau Ora model, delivering holistic, whānau-centred services that transformed how we support our people.

Today
The Largest Māori Provider in South Auckland

MUMA today is the largest Māori social service provider in South Auckland — delivering over 15 services, led by a passionate team of kaimahi committed to uplifting whānau every single day.
